8AM PROTEST BY AIRPORT WORKERS TODAY WEDNESDAY MAY 23
WHAT: Airport workers and supporters will hold a protest at Adelaide airport over poor pay and working conditions which are affecting safety and security.
WHEN: 8am Wednesday May 23
WHERE: Adelaide Airport, main entrance to terminal
Airport workers are protesting over low pay, forced part time jobs, casual work and split shifts. These working conditions cause high turnover rates and chronic fatigue which is risking safety and security at airports. Video footage shows how staff on split shifts and low rates are forced to sleep at airports. Staff with aviation ground services company Aerocare are forced to stay at the airport for over 15 hours a day because of split shifts, while being paid just six hours. Aerocare is fighting a case in the Federal Court to maintain its wage theft model and split shifts.
