WHO WE ARE

The Transport Workers' Union represents a diverse range of workers across the transport sector, including thousands in South Australia and the Northern Territory, and tens of thousands nationally.

The Transport Workers’ Union is the largest collective voice for the men and women that keep Australia moving. Together, we lead the fight for a fairer transport industry and safety for all who share the roads and the skies.
Throughout all states, across all sectors, we’re united in our fight to raise standards for all transport workers.

We’re fighting for the same pay for the same job. We’re holding wealthy clients and airports at the top of transport supply chains to account for fair rates and conditions. We’re determined to end the race to the bottom in transport and keep our communities safe while on the move in Australia.

These are the industry sectors that the TWU represents:

AVIATION – Everything above the wing like pilots and cabin crew, to below the wing like baggage handlers, security, catering and more

BUS DRIVERS – Drivers for buses in Adelaide, including public buses, private companies carrying out contracts for schools and tours and buses ferrying workers, for instance to mine sites

CASH-IN-TRANSIT – The men and women with the important responsibility of transporting large amounts of money safely and securely

GENERAL FREIGHT/ TRANSPORT – Road transport workers who are employees for major road transport companies and local freight businesses

LOCAL GOVERNMENT – Workers in the Northern Territory with specialist passenger transport jobs

OIL AND GAS – Workers in oil and gas transport and a portion of the call-centre workers in gas (Origin Gas).

OWNER DRIVERS – Truck drivers who own their own vehicle, who still have employee-like arrangements with clients and are subject to supply chain pressures

GIG ECONOMY – Rideshare and food delivery drivers who, prior to the new transform reform laws had little protection

WASTE – The workers who collect garbage and drive rubbish trucks
